Mooroolbark Grammar Year 3 to 7 Camp Blog

On Wednesday the 18th of October a bunch of legends from Mooroolbark Grammar made their way up to The Summit and your energy to get into camp was epic!

These legends were in for a massive 3 days that would push themselves physically and mentally. Day 1 started off by meeting your two coaches who guided you through your camp experience. Your coaches were Logan and Zoe. You also became familiar with our Five Keys and if we used them would make camp go from good to GREAT!

The Five Keys were:

1. Have Fun

2. Play All In

3. Make Lots of Mistakes

4. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

5. Don’t Go Home Wondering What If

Without further ado, we played a big game of ‘50 Up’, we then split up into our tribes and began our first 2 activities. Your activities throughout your time here at The Summit included:

Giant Swing, testing what it will take to let go of our fear and trust the process, letting go of “what if…”. Great work Olivia in showing great courage!

Bush Challenge, racing through as a team completing obstacles, and testing your physical and mental skills. Amazing leadership Connor!

Sky Bridge, traversing across the lake on nothing but a bridge, using every bit of concentration and focus on your technique, only to realize that it is usually our belief that determines if we successfully make it across. Excellent job Mietta on giving it a crack!

Flying Fox, a fast and furious journey across the entire park zipping through the air enjoying the spotlight. Fantastic job Yvette on making it look easy!

Rock-Wall, the ultimate challenge of physical and mental strength, testing your will to keep climbing up through fear. Wow, Sebastian showed incredible determination!

Tash’s Ladder, scaling up our big tower to then lean over nothing but a ladder at the very top! Awesome work Liam on your support and courage!

Laser Tag, dodging and weaving through our laser war zone striving to eliminate the opposition. Oscar! Making it look epic.

Highwire, scaling a tree to then balance across a thin wire with your partner and come down together like a boss. Epic work Noah and Nathan conquering your fears!

Day 2 started off with breakfast, followed by a morning intentions session with Logan before continuing the rest of the day. Our intentions session covered asking ourselves who we wanted to be for the day and making deliberate choices (supportive, brave, kind, competitive, etc.). What a huge day we had planned for day 2. We had 4 activities that all of you absolutely crushed, and it was a sight to see. Everyone was clearly already demonstrating our Five Keys.

Finally, we were about to begin the epic journey that would push you physically and mentally. The moment we had only heard rumors about, it was time for the Monster Course! Running against the other team through a mud run obstacle course linked together, hand in hand, to achieve not only the best time but also a closer connection to your fellow peers and teammates. After the first lap we followed it up with a surprise, we told you we were going to do it twice! What a sight to see. Pushing ourselves to limits we hadn’t reached before. Congratulations to all those who truly pushed through and demonstrated to themselves a new level of resilience.

Day 3 had arrived, and some of us were sad to be leaving but also glad to be sleeping in our own beds. We began with some breakfast followed by a gratitude session with Logan. This encouraged us to use gratitude as a tool to instantly FEEL joy and happiness when reflecting on the often unappreciated things we have in life. “Gratitude affects your attitude and in turn, affects your altitude”. To finish off camp we started with your last two activities. You then got a chance to vote for someone in your group who stood up and stood out throughout the 3 days, the person in the team who best demonstrated the Five Keys. As well as someone who demonstrated the most heart and bravery. Just when you thought camp was over, we all witnessed our WW2 army tank crush a car! And it was none other than your team's Values winner who got to have a first-class seat inside the tank as it got to work.

Thank you Mooroolbark Grammar for playing all in and achieving what was once thought impossible!

Keep Unleashing Your Greatness!
