Baringa Special School Blog

Baringa arrived on the 19th - it was one of the sunniest days we had seen in a long time and we were so lucky to have the same gorgeous sunshine throughout your time with us at camp! As soon as you all got off the bus, your coaches knew we were going to have an amazing experience. When you arrived you got some time to get settled in the Stadium and then it was into some introductions. You met four epic people: Sunny/Sophie, Emily, Spinks, and Sarah. Miss Sunny Day then introduced you to five more epic things - our Five Keys! After you learned about how to set some awesome goals, we challenged you to use these keys while you were in the park. They were: Have Fun, Play All In, Make Lots of Mistakes, Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable, and Don’t Go Home Wondering What If. You all rose to the occasion and it was so cool to watch!

After all our introductions we hit the park and jumped into our activities, it was amazing to watch you all already pushing your boundaries! You all flew through the Snowy River Challenge, the Teamies took out first place with a very impressive run of 19 minutes and 45 seconds! This time was followed closely by the Summit Warriors who finished in a whopping time of 29 minutes and 33 seconds. The team that took third place was only a couple of minutes behind, having completed the course in 31 minutes and 10 seconds which were the Mighty Ducks, and the team that won fourth place crushed the course in an impressive 34 minutes and 35 seconds, well done The Hunters! Sarah also saw some incredible stuff at Snake and Nails, some of the most amazing things to watch were: Abby touching the snake and Anita going across the nail board! The photos are amazing… Bree walked across the nail board an incredible amount of times and never broke a sweat, Justin touched Mitch and Luke came up for a photo with Mitch as well! So many people also went across the nail board twice so they could push themselves and go a little bit further. To everyone - a massive congratulations for smashing it in Snake and Nails, everyone found themselves a little bit uncomfortable and pushed through it, what we learned in Snake and Nails about getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, we used to help us at other activities like the higher ones we were able to experience on a Friday! Your teams made some amazing-looking flags with Sunny Day at Tribe Identity, they all looked awesome and it was an incredible way to break up the hustle and bustle of the other activities! Lastly, during the first day and a half, you were all experiencing your first activity that went up high - Tash’s Ladder! We heard some incredible stories about people making it up all the 14 levels but even those of you who went up the first four, or even the first one absolutely crushed it! We hope the photos from Tash’s Ladder turned out super well, and we hope everyone is immensely proud of how they had pushed themselves to achieve their desired goals, it was a lovely way to introduce the higher activities!

On Thursday, you were completing the activities you hadn’t experienced the day before but you were also able to do one of the following four: Flying Fox, Leap of Faith, Inflatables, or Cave. We’d like to take a moment to say a huge thank you to those of you who were flexible around Leap of Faith and Flying Fox! Sarah would also like to say a big thank you to all the teachers who were catching at Flying Fox! These activities also ran over into Friday but Leap of Faith was changed to Rockwall. So many people through those two days had pushed themselves so much to either go up high or to go into a dark space and we had so much fun at Inflatables! Jet pushed himself at the Cave and the Flying Fox, he was a little nervous about both of the activities but pushed himself to go as far as he could, Abby came up to the Flying Fox and said that if she was nervous just do it anyway and flew across! Emma made it halfway up the Rockwall and went across the Flying Fox as well with the biggest smile on her face! A big round of applause to everyone who participated in our activities, it was super inspiring and we could tell you were having so much fun!

What an epic way to spend three days! Thank you so much for joining us on such an exciting journey, we hope the things you learned will help you outside of camp, keep pushing yourselves!
