Brookside College Year 4 Camp Blog

On Monday afternoon the students of Brookside College came through The Summit gates. Eager to get going they were shown their accommodation to settle in. All students got together in the Lodge for an introduction to camp, staff, and the ‘Five Keys’. The first thing the groups did was play a game called ’Big Star, Little Star' Groups then smashed one rotation of activities and thought of their tribe names. All tribes then completed tribe identity, where the groups created a flag. (tribes listed in the table below).

On day 2, the group looks ready to go after breakfast we start our days with morning intentions and were shown the video “Bon Jovi”, asking the students to think about who they wanted to be for the day for themselves as well as their team. The tribes completed three epic rotations where we witness heaps of targets, stretches and super stretches, LOADS of GMICs were written down and read out.

After rotation 3 the tribes got to verse each other in an epic game of Shoe Bowling to win their tribes' spot in the Monster Run ahead! Then after a performance by the teachers and a quick brief, the tribes made their way to the start/finish line of the Monster Course! With the tunes pumping and the energy high, the groups took off. After nailing their first lap, the group was unaware they were going to run the same course twice, we do this to show resilience and teach the students that when they think they’ve got nothing left, they can dig deep and still keep going.

On day three, the final day of camp the tribes had two more activities to do. In the morning, when the tribes made their intentions clear, we also did gratitude and they were told to not go ‘checking out' early and to be present during the last two activities. To start off the tribes got their bodies moving doing a game called Evolution.

In the last debrief the tribe completed a debriefing strategy called ‘rock, stick’ where the students were told to reflect upon camp and the growth that has been shown. The team also voted for two tribe winners, someone who represented the Five Keys throughout camp, after the values winners were chosen and read out, they got the honor of keeping their tribes' flag. (as shown in the picture below)

On behalf of myself and The Summit, we would once again like to say thank you for coming to camp and having all the fun.
