Southern Cross Grammar Blog

On Wednesday, The Summit was blessed with an amazing group of students from Southern Cross Grammar. Sarah, Ash, Mesh and Sunny would love to thank every single student who attended the camp. Getting to know you over the three days and watching you all blossom was truly a blessing. From the very beginning, we just knew we were about to have a wicked camp! Well done to everyone for:

  1. Having All the Fun

  2. Playing All In

  3. Making Lots of Mistakes

  4. Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable

  5. Not Going Home Wondering What if

It was amazing to watch you all embody these keys over the three days, you all gave every activity your absolute best! On so many occasions you were asked to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and you always rose above the task, your coaches were blown away by every single one of you for truly pushing yourselves to your limits. It all started with Half Pipe, Go Go, Key Punch and Tiles, what a wonderful way to kick start an epic adventure! With these ‘introductory’ activities, we focused on teamwork and problem solving, figuring out ways that we could enhance said teamwork, making it go from good to world-class!

The first afternoon at camp saw the groups experiencing two activities, your group would have either completed: Flying Fox, Tash’s Ladder, Laser Skirmish or the Snowy River Challenge. I would really quickly love to give a huge shout-out to everyone for trying everything, whether you went up one ladder or you got all the way to the top of a tower, you all played all in, and you all got a little comfortable with the butterflies in your stomach and we were blown away watching you all crush the challenges coming your way, especially during the first day of camp! We were truly focusing on having fun and playing all in for the first two activities at camp! At the end of the first day, we had our four group names, they were:

  • The Ragglefart Bananas

  • The Bananas!

  • The Sui’s!

  • The Bikini Bottom Gangsters!

As another day of epic fun approached as did new activities and our incredible Mud Run! All the groups were able to experience four activities, two from the same list as day one: Flying Fox, Summit Window, Laser Skirmish, and the Snowy River Challenge and from our new activities you would have gotten the opportunity to experience two as well from this list: Rock Wall, Bush Challenge, High Wire and Orienteering. Sarah saw some amazing stuff at Summit Window, two lucky teams got to experience the Summit Window as we had to make a quick change to the program, but she’d love to give a huge shout-out to everyone who came up any of the ladders! She was impressed by how quickly you all adopted the target, stretch and super stretch. Every student said they found it beneficial, even just in a small way - remember to keep using it to set goals away from camp as well! And to everyone who got clipped in and leaned back - you smashed it! Amazing job everyone who Sarah got to meet at The Summit Window! Keep crushing those goals!

Every team was challenged at some point throughout the day, whether it was at Snowy River, trying to use the best team strategies to produce the fastest times, or you were individually challenged to face your fear of heights at Highwire / the flying Fox / Rock Wall or maybe you were inspired at Bush Challenge to try your hardest to beat the other teams! Or perhaps you challenged yourself in laser tag to get the most amount of hits, maybe you set a goal to get all the numbers in Orienteering in a record amount of time! So many people smashed those super stretches out of the park and an incredible amount of people conquered their fears, really embodying our Five Keys in so many of your rotations, every single one of you worked incredibly well at the activities and should be immensely proud of yourselves.

Before we knew it, it was then time to tackle our epic Mud Run! Not only did we do it once, but we did it TWICE! Outstanding leadership skills and determination were presented by everyone, we were blown away after every single student left everything out on the field, because that’s what it was all about, right? Unleashing your greatness and deciding who you want to be and how you want to show up when things get hard. So again, well done to those of you who brought a wicked ‘go-get-them’ attitude, you all smashed it! We hope you enjoyed your warm showers, nice long sleep, and spaghetti; you deserve it!

Your team improvement times were:

The Ragglefart Bananas improved by 10 minutes!

The Bananas improved by a whopping 10 minutes and 52 seconds, taking out the win!

The Sui’s improved by 4 minutes and 31 seconds!

The Bikini Bottom Gangsters improved by 5 minutes and 13 seconds!

Absolute outstanding effort from all our teams, well done!

To finish camp off, on the last day the students experienced the two activities you didn’t get to do just yet, which were all such epic ways to finish off our camp experience! On so many occasions we saw students complete things they didn’t think they were capable of doing, remember the feeling of pushing through those butterflies and discovering how amazing you truly are! After the activities ended, we had one last surprise - our tank! We got to watch four incredibly lucky legends, Mayla, Orlando, Lena, and Claire ride in the tank and crush a car! What an amazing way to end a fun-filled and exciting three days! We cannot thank you enough for embarking on this journey with us at The Summit and pushing yourselves outside of your comfort zones, Ash, Sunny, Mesh and Sarah wish you all the best for your years ahead, you’ll be amazing at whatever you end up doing!

Remember to keep having all the fun and playing all in, because the magic doesn’t happen inside your comfort zone. It’s when you take risks that you’ll start to grow, stay brave and keep being incredible.

All the love from The Summit family!
